Philadelphia Orchestra First Recording Project with DGG – In a time when very few U.S. symphony orchestras record for the major labels anymore, DGG signed up Gustavo Dudamel early in his relationship with the LA Philharmonic, and now Philadelphia Orchestra Music Director Yannick Nezet-Seguin will begin his long-term agreement with them with a recording in Verizon Hall of Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring, to be issued in the fall. The work was premiered in 1922 by the same orchestra, under Stokowski, and they made the first American recording of the work in 1930. This will be the first major-label project of the Philadelphia Orchestra since 1997, which was also with DGG.

LED LCD TVs Took Jump in Q4 – U.S. shipments of LED LCD TVs increased 29% in the fourth quarter of 2012, rising to 32 million units for the full year 2012. A Quixel Research study also found that big-screen TV unit shipments and factory revenue increased dramatically in the 4th quarter from the same period of 2011; 50-inch and larger sets seeing double-digit unit share advances. The big-screen segment is projected to capture 60% of the overall category by 2016. The overall top-selling LCD TV for Q4 2012 was a 60-inch model.  Usually 32-inch models lead the market in volume, but the low price of the 60-inch model drove it to the top of the market. In some cases consumers  can replace their first flat TV with one almost 20 inches larger at one-third the price.
