Gregg Allman – I’m No Angel – Live (2012)

Studio: Cherry Red Records Limited/MVD
Video: 1.33:1
Audio: English PCM Stereo
Extras: None
Length: 52 minutes
Rating:  ***1/2

This concert features Gregg Allman (lead singer and keyboard player of The Allman Brothers fame) playing with his solo band in Nashville (at the Cannery) in November of 1988.  In addition to a best-selling autobiography that came out in 2012, the Allman Brothers Band was awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award the same year.

The picture looks like good quality VHS tape.  The sound is good, but nothing amazing.  The one thing this disc has going for it is the music content, though it is a bit short.  The bluesy swing and rough lyrics that made the Allman Brothers a hit with fans is exactly what will be appealing to listeners/viewers of this disc (as long as the 80s hairdos aren’t too distracting).  Don’t worry; there aren’t any crazy effects, flashy camera moves or any of the effects that might detract from the performance either.  There’s a cool 14 minute blues jam at the end of the disc called “One Way Out.”  If you’re an Allman Brothers fan you’ll like this disc, if you aren’t, then you won’t.  Simple.

TrackList: Don’t Want You No More; It’s My Cross To Bear; Sweet Feeling; Just Before The Bullets Fly; Fear of Falling; Demons; I’m No Angel; Statesboro Blues; Slip Away; One Way Out.
