Another Home Automation Platform – Smart-house platform provider ROC-Connect has moved from its launch last year in Europe and Latin America to the North American market. ROC will offer turnkey solutions to manufacturers, retailers, service and insurance providers, and health-care facilities. They offer a multi-radio gateway/hub designed for DIY installation in the home with Cloud services. There is an app for iOS and Android devices and for web browsers. They will offer all the leading proocols to network devices in the home. Smartphones will receive notifications when doors, windows, or cabinets are opened, receive alerts when sensors detect smoke, carbon monoxide or water leaks, check security cameras, and operate lights. Their platform is claimed to provide a more complete turnkey solution to enable partners to rapidly deploy smart-home solutions.

Sono Luminus to Release Three Albums Using Auro-3D – The addition of a height layer above and around the listener is a feature of the Auro-3D mix which will be provided on three upcoming albums from Sono Luminus, in addition to the usual 5.1 and stereo options. An Auro-3D decoder is required for the immersive listening experience. The albums are Touch, by cellist and composer Peter Gregson, In the Light of Air – works by Icelandic composer Anna Thorvaldsdoittir for viola, cello, harp, piano, percussion & electronics, and From Whence We Came – Ensemble Galilei in music from classical and Celtic backgrounds.

Yamaha Expands Selections of Under-TV Speaker Bases –  Their new model is the SRT-700 ($349), for TVs up to 42 inches wide. It incorporates Dolby Digital, stereo Bluetooth, 120 watts of output, dual 3-inch “subwoofers,” app control via Bluetooth, one optical and one digital input, and IR learning controlled from a TV remote, which can turn the base on and off, adjust volume and mute it. The next up Yamaha model (SRT-1000) adds ten drivers and proprietary Digital Sound Projector technology – said to deliver surround without separate surround speakers by reflecting sound beams off the walls. It also has DTS 5.1 decoding, 126-watt output, aptX over Bluetooth, and an additional coax input.
